We met outdoorsy couple Tom and Donna in 2013 at Blacksmiths Cottage Nurseries in Diss where they live and work. It's really worth a visit if you are in the area, it has a lovely coffee shop, gallery and wildlife gardens where you will probably find the couple tending to lamas and looking after the other animals!
Last October, Rob and I had the pleasure of photographing their colourful, beautiful, romantic autumn wedding which took place at Elms Barn in Norfolk. Find why Donna and Tom chose an autumn wedding and look through some of their images from their big day.
The
proposal and the ring
Back in June 2012, Tom decided to whisk Donna off to Rome
for their 6 year anniversary. They decided to open their anniversary cards
together amongst some beautiful Roman Gardens where Tom got down on one knee
and popped the big question. Donna of course said yes, even though the special tear
drop diamond engagement ring that Tom wanted for Donna had not arrived in time
for their holiday, he managed to find a temporary replacement to symbolise the special
occasion!
Planning
the wedding
Donna and Tom both knew from the start that they wanted
an autumn wedding held in a rustic barn so when they saw Elms Barn in Norfolk, they knew it would be perfect for them. The couple started planning their
wedding early with Tom doing much or the organisation and making of the
handmade decorations.
Theme
and Colour scheme
Having decided on an autumn wedding from the start, Donna
and Tom knew they wanted a theme that would complement the season. To do this,
they decorated their venue with berries, scented candles, fresh orange rose
petals, pine cones, pumpkins and even had unusual vegetable table pieces. Donna
said “Orange is one of my favourite colours and a nice colour to brighten up
the theme” so they chose oranges and browns for their key colours and the
bridesmaids and best men had rustic bouquets and button holes.
First
Dance
A thousand years by Christina Perri – “this is a song we
have always liked because it says we will love each other forever” says Donna.
Best
Moment
Donna said “It’s hard to pick a best moment as the day
was amazing, we loved every minute of it and having our friends and family there
made the whole day PERFECT!”
Favourite
photo
"Too many to choose but our favourite ones are the one of
us kissing in the autumn leaves and the confetti photo!!", agrees the couple.
Advice
and tips
Donna and Tom’s advice to couples planning their wedding
at the moment is to make the day about YOU and YOUR PARTNER and don’t worry
about anyone else and just enjoy the day!
When asked if the couple would do anything differently,
their key piece of advice was “Just take more time to relax take it all in as
the day goes so quick!!”
